The Future

"Rappers these days are conventional. Fishing all their rhymes out of recycling receptacles. If I had a dime for every 'oh that was your girl?' I'd have enough currency to actually free earl." - 'The Riddler' - Rainey
With a sound similar to Childish Gambino, Rainey, an upcoming rapper from The Bronx, NY is rushing towards his dream. A beautiful combination of aspirations, personal stories, punch lines, and clever metaphors, Rainey is indisputably creating his path towards following his dreams and becoming a wonderful addition to Hip-Hop. He manages to combine a witty, lyrical flow, his day to day activities, passion for music, and his love life in the same tape. I commemorate him.
There is no doubt in my mind that Rainey is well underway to make greater changes in the Hip-Hop community, and even inspire people to do the same. Many upcoming artists use rap for the wrong reasons. This explains why rap music has undergone drastic changes over the past couple of decades. We as an audience have allowed and accepted rap to be tainted with false messages, negative lifestyles, and the worshiping of idols such as money, cars, etc. The basic "rapper" can now be spotted from a mile away; Hip-Hop sells if it's catchy or silly because unfortunately, that is what people want to hear these days. However, it is always refreshing to listen to new, upcoming artists that carry with them an essence of what Hip-Hop used to be like.
Still amazed by "Project Gotham" in the fact it is his first official mixtape. Many artists usually stick to one type of flow, message or character and run with it. You never know what to expect with Rainey. His versatile flow will change up on you from track to track, and even during a song. He is true to himself, understands the problems and challenges that the game is facing today, and he is ready to take them on. I hold much faith in him, his message, and the goals that I am sure he will accomplish.
I hardly promote artists because they all sound the same to me. The last time I promoted someone on my blog, or even took the time out of my day to write about their music was was July 2010. It's been a while.
Listen to Project Gotham. I am absolutely positive that once you do, you will want to hear more. Thank you.
